Day 10 & 11 - Colorado Springs

A long drive from Park City to Colorado Springs took us across northern Wyoming and down into the heart of Colorado. 400 miles of highway 80 may seem boring, but the stark beauty and vastness of undeveloped expanses are most impressive.

After our morning yoga session and breakfast, we loaded up the bikes and drove to Cheyenne Mountain State Park to pre-ride the race courses we'll be riding the next three days. As we were coming off the mountain, the skies darkened and the rain started to fall. Then the moment we came to the parking lot, marble-sized hail covered everything in a massive torrent among raging lightning and thunder. We scrambled into the vans, soaked and cold to wait out the most massive hail storm I have ever seen.

Of course, this adventure worked up the already big appetite of the group so it was on to the grocery store to stock up for the stage race weekend of riding hard, eating and recovering.

Stay tuned for race reports to follow after the stage 1 time trial tomorrow evening.
